Popular fitness chain Orangetheory is expanding to Flushing, Queens with an outpost at Tangram, one of the largest new developments in the neighborhood, the developers announced this week.
The Boca Raton, Fla.-based workout franchise inked a 10-year, 3,200-square-foot lease for a retail space in the project at 37-12 Prince Street. Asking rent in the transaction wasn’t disclosed. Orangetheory will open in the summer of 2020.
Developed by F&T Group and SCG America, Tangram is a 1.2 million-square-foot mixed-use project that includes residential condominiums, office space, a Renaissance Hotel, a Regal Cinemas theatre and 275,000 square feet of retail that will feature a food hall.
Orangetheory, which has more than 1,000 locations worldwide, offers 60-minute classes that are half cardio work (usually running on treadmills) and half resistance training with weights, medicine balls and other equipment.
Alex Chiu, an executive vice president at F&T Group, said in a statement that “Orangetheory Fitness will significantly fill the current void within the fitness studio market in Flushing.”
Craig Gelberg, Jessie Wang and Evan Schuckman from Ripco Real Estate represented Orangetheory in the deal, and Seth Kessler and Ian Rice of SCG Retail represented Tangram. Spokespeople for Ripco didn’t immediately return a request for comment. Kessler and Rice said Orangetheory “will be a great addition to the Tangram retail roster.”
